I have always been very careful about my health. I try to eat as healthy as possible and I also drag myself to the gym at least three times a week. When I became pregnant I decided that it was a must to keep up with my healthy food choices and active lifestyle.
Nonetheless, if I was going to start eating more organic foods and doing prenatal yoga DVDs at home, then why would I get an epidural and other bunch of drugs just at the end of the pregnancy? Why messing it all up at the end? That’s how I started researching about natural birth choices and came across with Hypnobirthing.
At the beginning I thought Hypnobirthing was just some Marketed concept to sell you a course and couple of CDs. My husband was also not supportive about the whole idea of going drugs free through the whole birthing process. He believed I was too weak to endure such an ordeal. Nonetheless, by coincidence we met a couple that had just had a baby by following the techniques taught in Hypnobirthing and that is how my husband and I decided to enroll in one course.
The course we attended was a very small class of three couples, all looking forward to learn the techniques that would allow them to attain the birthing they just dreamt about.
In the course we learned visualization, relaxation, and breathing techniques that were the key during labor. In addition, the course helped us built a closer relationship with our birthing partner by including him/her in the process. My birthing partner was my husband, and he had to learn relaxation techniques and massage that would help through labor.
In addition to the techniques for birth, in the Hypnobirthing class we were taught a great deal of how the body works during pregnancy and labor. This was one of my favorite parts of the course as it assured me that nature knows best and that the female body is just engineered to go through it.
I can say I left the course feeling empowered and believing that I was able to have a successful birthing experience.
